What this site is
Ridge & Verge is a small editorial site about roofing, written from Bedfordshire for the people who live here. We explain how things are built and why they go wrong, in language that doesn't assume you've ever held a slate ripper.
What we cover
The guides range from the everyday to the specific. A few of them:
- Pitched roofs — tiles, slate, and the felt and battens underneath
- Flat roofing systems compared: EPDM, fibreglass and felt
- How roof leaks are traced and put right
- Rainwater goods — gutters, fascias and the roofline
- Keeping older roofs weathertight through the seasons, including around Harpenden
How we write it
We lead with the answer, then explain the reasoning. No padding, no scare tactics, no pretending every job is more complicated than it is. Where local conditions matter — the age of housing in a particular town, the way exposed verges take the weather — we say so.
